And still
He was my IT guy
Here’s a thing I keep not doing. There are recurring charges to the checking account paid to Apple. I know they must be Randy’s because they aren’t mine. I spoke with Apple support within 6 months of Randy’s death, but it was hard - they wanted a death certificate and so on and I just lost heart as it was hardly the most important thing on my list.
But today I had to try to sort out a bank screwup—mine, not theirs—and I saw those charges and I thought, this is ridiculous. So I called Apple support and went through the rigamarole again to find out what the subscriptions are and cancel them.
And I asked again about getting into the cloud to access all his stuff. It’s complicated because his appleID is his email address and I shut that down. The support person said he could share screens with me on Randy’s phone and change the appleID, but of course his phone is dead. And I couldn’t find it at first. I found his iPad, but it’s a different cord from mine.
And it all came rushing back to me from the first time I did all this. I told the guy that I’d have to call back when I’d gotten the device charged and I hung up. And I went looking for his phone and found it exactly where I’d searched before.
And I cried.
